Luxury Glass-Fronted Bioethanol Fireplace with Curved Plaster Canopy
Designed in collaboration with Malin +Lynn Architects, this bespoke bioethanol fireplace is set beneath a sweeping curved plaster canopy, creating a strong architectural focal point within the light-filled contemporary living space. The canopy projects gently into the room, softening the geometry of the surrounding walls and giving the fireplace a distinctive sculptural form without making the installation feel heavy.The glass-fronted bioethanol fire sits flush within the base of the composition. Its clean linear opening and dark steel interior provide a strong contrast to the pale plasterwork, allowing the movement and colour of the flame to stand out clearly.
The glazing creates a more enclosed appearance while retaining an uninterrupted view of the fire.Handmade timber shelving extends from both sides of the fireplace, linking the curved canopy with the wider joinery scheme. The shelves introduce warmth and natural texture while providing practical space for books, artwork and decorative objects. Rather than appearing as separate pieces of furniture, the fireplace, canopy and shelving have been designed together as one complete wall feature.
The bioethanol specification provided significant flexibility within the project. As the fireplace does not require a gas connection or conventional external flue, it could be positioned according to the proportions and layout of the room rather than being dictated by an existing chimney or service route. The burner, glazing and surrounding enclosure were designed as a complete system to suit the technical requirements of the installation.The finished fireplace combines curved plasterwork, dark steel, clear glass and natural timber within a carefully balanced composition.
It provides real flame and atmosphere while remaining fully integrated with the architecture, storage and material palette of the interior.
